We are in the process of digging a pool resulting in wonderful dirt mountains in our yard. I was out snapping progress photos and happened to catch a few shots of Kids, Dirt, and Dogs:

Here are some new photos of the boys & girl. I usually have only one at a time out with me when I do chores, but this day our children had them all out playing with them and I had also turned all the weanlings out in the yard while I worked on a pen. Kids & pups were fine together all afternoon. Just for fun, I called the pups to me and began "shooshing" the kids back to the barn to put them up. I was surprised and amazed at the teamwork they displayed!
Photo #1 shows Buck helping move them off the fence & out of the brush. Then they all take off around the side of the barn. Photo #3 shows Elliott in a stand-off with TwoStep, who finally decides who's boss and can be seen rounding the corner of the barn in #4 in front of a much slower Calypso. Elliott is quite satisfied to pad along behind Calypso. Photo #6 is where they have cornered a few kids to wait on me for further direction. We moved them into the center aisle of the barn and while these pups are holding most of the kids, Ace & Gideon have followed me around to pick up those who just made a run-by in Photos 7 & 8. They both showed excellent gathering abilities with Ace more of a "header" and Gideon the "heeler". By the time I made one more trip to get the bottle babies (who don't react much to dogs) I rounded the corner to find all the pups standing at the mouth of our barn holding 35 kids in the center aisle until I could open the gate. That would have been the perfect ending to this series, but by that time my battery had run out!

Our "American Idol" pups are proving to be outstanding in all three areas of the Farmcollie nature. They do their best to "herd" the chickens & guineas, are on ALERT when anything unusual catches their attention showing good guardian instincts, and several have helped Pappa Buck take care of a few small rodents showing off their tracking skills on the hunt. Several show a real interest in baseball, some were obvious batters, others preferred catching, but someone forgot to tell Taylor the difference between a WORK glove & catcher's mitt!

03/23/06 Here are the newbies, eyes just opening at 15 days. They all just had supper, so we didn't capture much action, as you can see in the "box" photo! Looks like I have a repeat of one as there are nine pups shown. I think the number three guy is in there twice. The first tri pup is the female. We do have names picked, but won't them till we see the personalities begin to shine.
